EATON, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 20-year-old central New York man has been charged with attempted murder after he used a baseball bat to hit his father in the head and body more than a dozen times.
Troopers say Vincent Stile and 59-year-old Anthony Stile got into an argument Tuesday night at the home they share in the rural Madison County town of Eaton, 30 miles southeast of Syracuse.
Police say the younger man attacked his father as he laid on a couch, spraying pepper spray into his face and hitting him 15 or 16 times with the bat.
Authorities say the elder Stile is in critical condition at a Syracuse hospital.
The son is being held in the county jail on $500,000 bail. It couldn't be determined if he had a lawyer.

Members of the community of the Riverdale section of the Bronx gathered above the site of the crash of a metro-north train to pray for the injured and the dead. Four passengers were killed and more than 60 injured when the commuter train heading to Manhattan from Poughkeepsie derailed Sunday morning near the Spuyten Duyvil station.
Commuters who rely on Metro-North trains to get to and from New York City will need to make adjustments to their regular travel plans. Expect reduced service on the Hudson Line between Poughkeepsie and Yonkers following Sunday's deadly train derailment in the Bronx.
