The Atlanta Falcons starting safety William Moore was arrested on a charge of simple battery on Thursday, according to Fulton County Jail records.

Moore was booked into Fulton County Jail, according to jail records.

No details were immediately available about the arrest.

The Falcons released a statement saying, "We are aware of the situation involving William Moore and are in the process of gathering more information.  Because this is now a legal matter, the club will have no further comment at this time."

Moore was selected by the Falcons in the second round of the 2009 draft, and earlier this year, he signed a five-year extension with the team.

He is expected to go before a judge on Friday.
