3 dead, one critical following wreck on Interstate 95
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Investigators with the Florida Highway Patrol are trying to find out exactly what caused an accident that killed a woman, two of her children, and left a third child in critical condition.
Troopers responded to a crash involving a Mercedes-Benz Van near the interchange of Interstate 95 and LPGA Blvd. shortly before 4 p.m. Friday.
Michelly Zulfiqar, 38, of South Daytona, and one of her children, 10-year-old Hami, were all killed at the scene. A second child, 3-year-old Dani, was taken to a hospital but later died. A fourth child, 4-year-old Sami, was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he is clinging to life.
Troopers are sill investigating and believe Zulfiqar drifted off of the highway and hit the wall of an overpass and flipped. According to an FHP spokesperson, witnesses said she never applied the brakes.
This is not the first time the Zulfiqar Family has suffered tragedy. Back in 2006, the family lost another child who fell off of a boat on Father's Day.
