Rollins College students hold mini marathon to benefit bombing victims
WINTER PARK, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Rollins College on Friday held a mini marathon, in honor of the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing.
The race spanned 2.6 miles around the campus. All the money raised from the event will help pay medical bills for family members of the dean of the Rollins College Chapel, Pat Powers. His sister, brother-in-law, and nephew were all injured in Monday's blast at the finish line.
"My brother-in-law, Bill, suffered the most. He had to have part of his right leg amputated," Powers told the crowd. "My family Bill, Mary Jo and Kevin are running with you. The legs of all those hurt in Boston are also running on your legs."
Powers said his brother-in-law is one of many Boston Marathon victims visited by President Barack Obama earlier this week at Massachusetts General Hospital.
