ROMULUS, Mich. (WJBK) -

What in the world is my picture doing on the Romulus mayor's re-election website?  Take that off!

Some background: I first laid eyes on Romulus Mayor Alan Lambert back in 2011.  He was running away from me.  I had some questions about his chief of police, who was accused of spending public money on hookers and a tanning salon.

Romulus got itself a new chief of police -- Robert Dickerson.  I spoke at an awards ceremony he held in Romulus this past winter honoring public safety workers.  That is when Mayor Lambert weaseled up next to me for the shot.

Now finally a few weeks ago, Lambert's house got raided by state police in connection with money he allegedly took from a local businessman.  Chief Dickerson quit in disgust, and I got a call about the photo on Lambert's re-election website.  I didn't okay that.

I caught up with the mayor at Romulus City Hall where we had the following conversation:

LEDUFF: You've got my picture on your website.  Can you take it off?"

LAMBERT: Maybe.

LEDUFF: I didn't mean that to be an endorsement.

LAMBERT: Didn't you?

LEDUFF: No.

LAMBERT: I didn't say it was an endorsement.

LEDUFF: Well, it looks like one.

LAMBERT: I'll talk to the person who put it on there.  I didn't put it on there.

LEDUFF: Can I get your word?

LAMBERT: Sure, yeah, I'll talk to him.  I'll have him take it off.

LEDUFF: Now, what's going on with the state police raiding your house?

LAMBERT: They executed a search warrant, Charlie.  I don't know what else I could tell.

LEDUFF: Did you have the ink on your hands?  Did you take money?

LAMBERT: I can't talk about [any] of that, but what I do know, that story you reported, man, you got some bad information brother....

LEDUFF: What kind of confidence does this give the people?

LAMBERT: Well, I don't know, but I've got a lot of people supporting me, Charlie.  I haven't been charged with anything.

Well, Mr. Mayor, I look forward to the day when you can set the record straight.  In the meantime, take my picture off your website.
