TAVARES, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

An 11-year-old Tavares girl whose parents are accused of starving her is out of the hospital, authorities said.

When the girl was found by Florida Department of Children and Families investigators earlier this month, she weighed just 40 pounds. They say her parents had a padlock on the refrigerator and pantry.

Two other children lived in the Tavares home. Authorities said they did not show any visible signs of abuse or neglect and were staying with a relative.

The 11-year-old has gained 10 pounds in the past week and has been enjoying grits, Pop Tarts and bacon, a DCF spokesperson said. She is expected to fully recover.

The agency is trying to raise money for her school clothes and to pay for a trip to Disney World. Anyone interested in helping the child or donating to help pay for her trip can go to the Florida Department of Children and Families Facebook page.
