Angela Stoldt hung her head and hid behind her long hair as she waited her turn before a Volusia County judge on Wednesday.
Stoldt, 40, is accused of killing her neighbor and former friend, 36-year-old James Shaeffer, then disposing of his body and cell phone. According to the charging affidavit, Stoldt told a family member she killed Shaeffer in her car.
The family member called 911 on April 21, saying Stoldt was suicidal and had confessed to a crime. The affidavit states that Stoldt told investigators she not only stabbed Shaeffer, but she strangled him and then disposed of the body.
Then she led them to locations where they found what is believed to be Shaeffer's body and cell phone.
Neighbors on Horseshoe Drive in Deltona said Stoldt and Shaeffer were friends. The charging affidavit states that Stoldt and Shaeffer have a joint bank account and Stoldt was the payee for Shaeffer's Social Security disability checks.
James Sheaffer was reported missing on April 4. A limousine driver, he was last seen by his father two days earlier.
Sheaffer's boss described him as a good employee. "He was one of my best limo drivers and it's a real tragedy," he told us.
Stoldt has been charged with second-degree murder, abuse of a dead human body, and tampering with physical evidence. She will remain in the Volusia County Branch Jail on a no bond status.
