PHILADELPHIA -

Take a look at the surveillance video that even veteran cops call disturbing.

The video was released Thursday by the Philadelphia Police Department. It shows a girl carrying a backpack being approached by another child – who police said could be as young as 10 – whipping out a weapon and pointing it right at the girl's head.

The girl is seen putting her hands up as if she were being robbed but then continued walking from the area.

That's when police say another boy appears, grabs the firearm and walks east on Ontario Street, where he drops to one knee and points in the direction of a group of males who were walking towards him.

This happened Monday night around 6:45 p.m. on the 3300 block of North 16th Street in the city's Tioga section.

Investigators say the group is then seen assaulting a 27-year-old man about 20 minutes later. The video shows one of the boys reach into his backpack, pull out the handgun and point it in the direction of the man.

According to police, the boy shouted, "Hey, buddy!" at the man, prompting him to run into a house and call 911.
Police believed the boys in the video were as young as 10 and no older than 16.

The three then ran south on 16th Street toward Allegheny Avenue.

We've since learned that the gun was a plastic BB gun.

But residents who saw the video earlier were concerned.

FOX 29 News was there Thursday night as a pre-teen boy was escorted by his parents into Northwest Detectives for questioning, along with a teenage suspect.

The boy was released an hour later to his parents.

Investigators still want to talk with the third child.

Police have not said if there will be any charges filed.

If you have any information that might help investigators, you're asked to call the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-TIPS (8477). You can text a tip to police by typing PPD TIP or 773847.
