Bill to lift statute on child sex crimes passes senate

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The Illinois Senate passed a bill lifting the statute of limitations on child sex crimes.

The head of the Survivor's Network of those Abused by Priests says Illinois kids are now safer because more child molesters will have their day in court.

SNAP isn't the only group in the state celebrating this decision.

"For a lot of people who are victims as children, it takes well into adulthood to try to come to grips with what's happened and at that point when they try and hold the person who perpetuated the violence against them they're often told the statute of limitations has run out."

The Illinois House still has to vote on this bill. A date for that has not been set.
