Michael Byrne of the Federal Emergency Management Agency says people are beginning to rebuild, six months after superstorm Sandy struck the region.

It's going to take a while.

"We advanced two months rent to people without even inspecting their homes. We got in there and had money on the street really fast. We've paid out more than $6.6.B to survivors of Sandy (in New York)," said Byrne.

Among the hardest hit areas, Staten Island, had abut 27,000 homes impacted.

"As far as FEMA dollars, a good portion of those homes got FEMA money and if not FEMA dollars they got money from our flood insurance program," said Byrne.

The agency has been on the ground in the worst hit areas since the storm hit six months ago.
