Sheriff's office searching for missing 81-year-old woman
OSTEEN, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in locating an 81-year-old Osteen woman who has been missing for up to two weeks.
Neighbors started noticing that newspapers had been piling up at the entrance to her home and when a neighbor went to check on Shirley Umbarger a sliding glass door was found open and a radio inside the home was playing. The Sheriff's Office was notified Sunday afternoon and responded to the home at 1245 Gee Whiz Lane. Deputies noted that there were no signs of forced entry or foul play.
The last time neighbors recalled seeing Umbarger was about two weeks ago when she rode home from a store with one. Umbarger does not have a car or a cell phone. Deputies checked with local hospitals and businesses but didn't find any sign of her. Several attempts have been made to contact family members without success.
Umbarger is about 5 feet, 2 inches tall, weighs 115 pounds and has brown eyes and blond hair. Anyone who spots Umbarger or has information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Office at 386-736-5999.
