Mounted officers' narrow escape from crash captured on dashcam

ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Dashcam video captured a group of mounted Orlando Police officers narrowly escaping being struck by a vehicle in downtown Orlando.

Joseph Edward Boyer, 22, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Police say the video shows Boyer driving erratically at Court Avenue and Washington Street. Officers say he was drunk when he ran a red light, nearly striking several mounted officers and their horses.

"I think the lesson here is, it just shows the dangers of impaired driving or drunk driving. If a driver almost hits three officers on horses, can you imagine a pedestrian?" Sgt. Diego Toruno said.

According to an arrest affidavit, Boyer blew a .178 on a Breathalyzer test, more than twice the legal limit in Florida.
