NASA captures image of solar flare

New video from NASA shows a coronal mass ejection, or CME, erupting fromjust around the edge of the sun.  The CME was in the sun's limb and isnot headed towards the earth.

The accompanying video may look like a rapideruption, but the time-lapse video spans about two-and-a-half hours.

The gigantic rolling solar wave can shootover a billion tons of particles into space at over a million miles per hour.

The sun is currently in an active phase ofits eleven-year solar weather cycle.  it's expected to reach its peak activitythis year.
