MOM VS. DAD: Who would you rather move in later in life?

Posted: Updated:

Many families face having a parent move in with them later in life, but a new survey shedding light on the topic suggests that many people would prefer not to welcome their elderly parents in.

"Just to be clear, you guys are not moving in here," FOX 9's Rob Olson warned his folks. "I'm not alone in this."

While they may be aging and growing fragile, Olson figured that -- after all they'd done for him -- they deserved the honest truth: They won't be welcome to live in his house.

"I don't feel guilty because I'm in the majority," he told them.

A survey conducted by Visiting Angels, which provides care for seniors in their own homes, found 70 percent of adult children do not want their parents to move in with them; however, if they were forced to take one or the other, 67 percent would chose mom.

When asked why, it was because mothers would help more with cooking, cleaning, raising children and would be neater as well as a better listener. As for dad, the survey found that fathers are less welcome because they're seen as having worse hygiene and could be a bad influence. Respondents said fathers are more likely to say inappropriate things, are lazier and would want to control the TV more than mom.
