Orlando named top summer destination by Orbitz.com
Orlando has been named the No. 1 summer vacation destination by travel website Orbitz.com.
The City Beautiful beat other popular destinations such as Las Vegas, Cancun and Seattle.
The Orbitz.com list is determined by events in the area and whether the location is affordable for the average family.
Orbitz says Orlando's theme parks are one of the biggest draws for travelers. Walt Disney World recently opened an expansion to the Magic Kingdom's Fantasyland area, and Universal Orlando will debut a Transformers ride next month.
Other Florida destinations named in a ranking of affordable cities include Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.
"In our affordability ranking, there are four Florida destinations that fare very well for travelers on a budget this summer," Orbitz.com senior travel editor Jeanenne Tornatore said.
"Tampa is our most affordable destination this summer, followed by Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Miami comes in on the list at No. 7," she said.
Las Vegas and Denver rounded out the top five affordable destinations.
