A Brevard County man is facing felony charges after multiple victims have come forward claiming that he took their deposit money meant for a home purchase and then disappeared.
Marcus Edward Brown, 55, was arrested late Friday afternoon on a warrant for scheming to defraud. The warrant carries a $50,000 bond. Brown is expected to appear before a judge Saturday morning for a probable cause hearing and detectives believe there are likely more victims that have not yet come forward.
"This individual is knowingly creating bogus contracts and fraudulently obtaining deposits on property that he knows has several thousand dollars in liens and he's not disclosing it," said Palm Bay Police Detective Lewis Jones. "He clearly is motivated by money. It appears his plan was to keep taking deposits from as many people as he could."
Scheming to defraud is a third-degree felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine if convicted. Detectives believe there are other victims who have not yet come forward. Anyone who has had similar interaction with Brown should contact Detective Lewis Jones at 321-726-5611.
