Apopka man taking out trash shot in crossfire, deputies say
APOPKA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A man taking out the trash was inadvertently shot late Tuesday night, deputies say, and a search is underway for several people riding in a van thought to be responsible.
Just after 11 p.m., Orange County deputies arrived at 15th Street and Central Avenue in Apopka to find a man shot in front of his home.
The man, thought to be an innocent bystander, was taking out the trash when he was struck by bullets coming from a van driving down the street, deputies say. The green van was chasing four men running from it.
The four men cut through the neighborhood, and the van caught up with them again on 17th Street, deputies say.
The van's riders continued their gunfire, striking the home and car of an older woman. The woman was not hit, but she later went to a hospital for chest pains.
A few blocks away, deputies found the green van, thought to be stolen, engulfed in flames.
The gunshot victim was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
