NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Tickets are now available to visit the Statue of Liberty, which will reopen July 4, 2013, upon completion of repairs to infrastructure damage caused by Superstorm Sandy.

"We are delighted that Lady Liberty will once again be open to the public. We look forward to providing a safe and enjoyable experience to all of our visitors," said David Luchsinger, the Statue of Liberty National Monument and Ellis Island superintendent, in a news release. "We appreciate the extraordinary efforts of all of those who are working diligently to re-open the park."

When the record-high storm surge hit, nearly 75 percent of the island was under water. The storm destroyed or damaged the island's docks, electrical infrastructure, walkways, Park Police and National Park Service facilities, and more. The statue itself and its pedestal were undamaged.

Only limited areas on Ellis Island, which also suffered significant damage to facilities, will be accessible to the public.

You must buy tickets in advance if you plan to visit between July 4 and September 2, the National Park Service said.

Statue Cruises, the only official ferry service that serves Liberty Island and Ellis Island, runs boats from both Battery Park in Manhattan and Liberty State Park in Jersey City.

Visitors should expect security procedures before boarding ferries, on the ferries as well, and on the islands, too, officials said.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
