House Divided: Mesa couple split on Jodi Arias case

Posted: Updated:

The Jodi Arias trial has divided a valley couple.  They've watched every minute of the trial together, but their opinions on the case are very different.

Not only do they disagree on the conviction, they disagree on the sentencing that is to come.

"It's actually hit and it's a little emotional. I don't think she deserved that," said Kassandra Morales.

Kassandra says as a victim of domestic violence, she sympathized with now convicted killer, Jodi Arias.

"I'm upset for her now... I'm upset because I do believe she was trying to protect herself.  She doesn't deserve first degree."

Kassandra and her husband, Gilbert, have been watching the trial since day one.

" husband.. when he goes work, I record it for him.  We sit down together and we watch it together."

The two wanted to be outside the courthouse for the verdict.

Gilbert Morales agreed with the jury that Arias was guilty of first degree murder, but his wife was hoping for a manslaughter conviction, which carried a much lighter sentence.

"I'm a victim of domestic violence and I believe everything she had to say about her domestic violence situation," said Kassandra.

Not only are the two divided on the conviction, the couple is now divided on what the penalty should be for Jodi Arias.

"I want to give her the noose, hang her," said Gilbert.

"I do believe she needs help, counseling to get her through this.. she was talking suicide," said Kassandra.  "I'll be praying for her."

Kassandra admits at first, she was afraid to speak out in favor of Arias, especially with so many people gathered outside the courthouse against her.
