Zach Sobiech sings farewell on YouTube, singers respond

Posted: Updated:

Zach Sobiech, 18, of Minnesota, has terminal cancer and only weeks to live. Zach turned to music, writing and performing songs as a way to say goodbye to his family and friends.

In November 2009, he was given a diagnosis of osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer that targets teenagers and young adults. After 10 surgeries and numerous chemotherapy treatments the disease keeps spreading and doctors have no more effective treatment options to offer him a cure.

His mother told him he should start writing goodbye letters to those he loved but Zach says that's not his style. So instead he put his heart into song lyrics. His emotional farewell song, "Clouds," was posted on YouTube December 5, 2012, and went viral with over 2.5 million views and climbing.

Actors and singers including Sarah Silverman, Ashley Tisdale, Jason Mraz, Colbie Caillat Collbie, and Phillip Phillips are among the stars who responded with their own video for Zach singing his song. They wanted to help Zach spread his message and bring awareness to increase support for finding a cure.

Zach continues to embrace everyday with hope and joy.
