PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Senate leaders introduced a series of state budget bills Tuesday and expect the proposal to move to a vote later this week, clearing the way for a debate on Gov. Jan Brewer's Medicaid expansion plan.

Senate President Andy Biggs says the Appropriations Committee will hear the bills Wednesday and they should reach the Senate floor Thursday.

Biggs says he expects a battle as Democrats and a handful of Republican Medicaid expansion supporters try to add Medicaid portion. Biggs and fellow conservative Republicans oppose the plan.

Senate approval would send the budget to the House, where Medicaid expansion remains uncertain.

The budget, Medicaid expansion and Brewer's sales tax collection overhaul plan are the remaining big issues for the Legislature this year.
