CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

UPDATE from May, 16: FOX 32 has learned that the woman's story was made up. Detectives say they found inconsistencies with her account and video that was recovered at the scene.

An elderly woman was the latest victim of a Mag Mile robbery after a group of men stole some very expensive jewelry and cash.

Chicago police sources say the robbery victim, an elderly woman from Homewood-Flossmore, was outside Saks Fifth Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was approached by a group of five young men.

The men threatened her and then stole $200,000 worth of jewelry, including an expensive ring and broach. They also robbed her of $6,000 in cash.

After the attack, the men fled towards Rush Street.

Throughout the afternoon, police canvassed the area for witnesses and security video that might help then find who was responsible.

Police continued to provide a very visible presence in the area Wednesday night, trying to provide a bit of reassurance to shoppers in this tourist mecca. Still, some were disturbed to learn of the robbery.

"That's horrible, very surprising," says Pat Fitzgerald, who is visiting from New Jersey. "Did anyone see it? There's a lot of people around, did anyone see it? That's terrible, very scary, makes me think twice about it."

"I feel very safe here," Kim Deeb from Chicago says. "I've definitely noticed an increased police presence ever since the incident a couple of months ago, so I'm conscious of where my purse is at all times, jewelry, things like that, overall I feel safe."

The woman was not physically hurt in the attack.
