Pregnant dog thrown out of moving car; unborn puppies and mom rescued
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
It's a pile full of precious puppies that almost didn't make it. Someone actually threw the mama dog out a car window.
Leila is just a one year old puppy, but already, she has been through so much.
"She had been thrown out of a car at a very busy intersection and the owners sped off as soon as somebody else was trying to help. They obviously wanted to ditch her," said Molly Hare, of Poodle and Pooch Rescue.
The witness brought Leila to Poodle and Pooch Rescue in Orlando, where they quickly realized she was pregnant. she gave birth to nine puppies on Mother's Day.
"She is a great mom," said Hare. "She's doing excellent, she's feeding them, she cleans up after them, she's very attentive to them."
Poodle and Pooch Rescue is no stranger to animals who have been through the ringer. They take in the dogs that no one else wants.
"We take a lot of the dogs that are heartworm positive, that have been hit by a car, have pelvis fractures, broken legs that require pretty extensive surgery," said Rebecca Lynch, president of Poodle and Pooch Rescue. "Those are the dogs that we like to take. We take the three-legged and the one-eyed dogs that nobody else wants, and we find them a home every time."
Little Leila is just lucky she ended up where she did.
"She's just really fortunate, not to be tossed out, but to be found by people who would take her in," Hare said.
Leila and her puppies will be ready for adoption in August. The group caring for Leila is accepting donations to help take care of all those puppies.
