Man charged with attacking wife in staged home invasion, deputies say
DELTONA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
Deputies have arrested the husband of a 27-year-old woman, whose face was slashed Wednesday night by an intruder, thought to be a stranger. Investigators said the attacked was staged by the husband to look like a random home invasion.
Two 3-year-old children were also at the home on Steward Terrace in Deltona but were unharmed.
Volusia County deputies said the woman told them that, just after 10 p.m., a masked intruder came into the home and demanded money from her. The intruder then slashed the woman's face and left the home empty-handed. The woman also sustained lacerations to her hands and was treated at the scene.
Investigators questioned the victim's husband, 29-year-old Timothy Hunter, who said he was away from the home and running an errand at the time of the attack. Detectives said there were inconsistencies to Hunter's account of a mysterious car possibly following him before returning home just in time to see one or two shadowy figures bolting from his yard.
Deputies said Hunter later confessed to attacking his wife, adding that he was mad at her for supposedly cheating on him and wanted to scare her.
Hunter faces felony charges of aggravated battery and destroying or tampering with physical evidence. He has been booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach, where he initially will be held without bond.
