Monterey Park, CA -

(FOX 11 / AP) A student was being questioned Thursday in connection with threatening phone calls that prompted the closure of two Los Angeles-area colleges.

The 19-year-old was led away from a classroom and detained at Santa Monica College, police Sgt. Candice Cobarrubias said.

No other details about the student were made available. No weapons have been recovered.

Meanwhile, the lockdowns at the campus and at East Los Angeles College were lifted and classes resumed at the Santa Monica campus.

An anonymous call was made before 8 a.m. to the California Highway Patrol saying a man with a gun was going to a college in the Monterey Park area, said sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Nishida.

As a precaution, East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park was evacuated and classes were canceled for the day.

About 20 miles away in Santa Monica, the CHP received another cellphone call about a threat involving a weapon, police said.

The phone was tracked to an area near Santa Monica College, which was placed on lockdown along with nearby middle and elementary schools, authorities said.
