Man wakes to find SUV propped on blocks with tires missing
ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
College Park resident Roger Owens woke up to a nightmare on Thursday morning.
"My neighbor called me in the morning and told me to come outside and check out the car, because my tires and wheels were missing!" he told us.
Still in a haze, he thought it was a bad joke. "Came out here and found out he was telling me the truth."
Owens doesn't remember hearing anything unusual overnight. He believes the crooks busted out the back window and climbed inside his Infiniti SUV to avoid opening the door which would have set off the alarm.
"That's the thing that's scary! This one seems kind of organized," he said. "It must have been a team of people."
Detectives think that, once they found the wheel key, the thieves were able to take all four tires. Owens said he bought them brand new just four-and-half months ago. They left the vehicle propped up on blocks.
The tow truck driver who responded said he is not at all surprised and has been receiving similar calls every week.
"Luckily, we've got another vehicle ,and we're off to get a rental car," said Owens. "And then get on with the day."
While Owens juggles police reports, insurance claims and rental cars, he hopes his bad luck can be a chance for neighbors to be on the look out for the criminals responsible.
