School Bus Video Shows Students Bullying Aide

Posted: Updated:
UPPER DARBY, Pa. -

An elementary school student verbally abuses an adult bus aide, and someone else records the entire thing.

The tormenting is so severe that police are finally called in to take control of the chaos.

The incident happened this week in Delaware County, FOX 29's Bruce Gordon reports.

We know the video, posted to Youtube, was shot a little after 4 p.m. Tuesday aboard an Upper Darby school bus, and it shows what we believe to be students from the Upper Darby School District being transported home from a school outside the district.

It's disturbing stuff.

The 14-minute video, apparently shot surreptitiously by a teenager aboard the bus, shows a handful of misbehaving youngsters – probably ages 7, 8 and 9 – making life miserable for a female aide to the bus driver.

Things quickly escalate with a couple of the kids.

"Get your hands off me," the aide says. When the child mocks her, the woman repeats, "Get your hands off me."

And when the child denies anything happened, the woman yells, "Yes you did, yes you did."

One of the children – the Youtube caption indicates he's just 7-years-old – then proceeds to unleash a barrage of foul language aimed at the bus aide.

He repeatedly calls her the "B" word, and the "F" bombs are flying. We've bleeped the worst of it.

Finally, the aide and bus driver have had enough.

"Call the cops please," she said. "Call 9-1-1, please."

But the verbal abuse continued.

Within minutes, Haverford police intercept the bus at the corner of Upland Road and Sherbourne. Police pull two troublemakers off, to talk to them and settle things down as the aide describes what happened.

"The language out of him was horrible. He gave me a push," the aide can be heard saying.

Mary Carney lives just a few doors away and saw the bus and police cars, but she hadn't seen the video, till we showed it to her.

"They're grade-school kids," Carney said.

"They are," Gordon answered.

"And they were driving around for how long?" she asked.

"Well, there was about 15 minutes of video, a good 10 minutes of which shows this activity going on," Gordon said.

"Unbelievable," replied Carney.

In a written statement, a spokeswoman for the Upper Darby School District calls the incident "troubling," and says the district is working with police, the district attorney and other county agencies to address the issue.

Haverford police said their investigation is complete-- that there was no criminal behavior and so, no charges will be filed.
