LEESBURG, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

A Lake County deputy in his work SUV struck and injured a bicyclist in Leesburg early Friday morning.

At about 5:30 a.m., Deputy Mitchell Blackmon was traveling west on County Road 44 near Harbor Shores Road when troopers say the front and side mirror of his SUV struck a westbound bicycle.

The rider, Keith McManus, 42, was thrown from his bike. McManus, of Eustis, was taken to Florida Hospital Waterman with non-life-threatening injuries.

McManus was not wearing a helmet, according to the Florida Highway Patrol, which has not determined whether his bike was illuminated by lights or a reflector.

Blackmon, 43, of Tavares was not injured. The crash is under investigation.
