Rep. John Kline talks IRS, AP scandal

Posted: Updated:

Some big headlines have arrived out of Washington, D.C. as the IRS admitted to targeting conservative groups and the Justice Department's seizure of phone records of reporters from the Associated Press.

FOX 9's Karen Scullin sits down with Republican Congressman John Kline (MN-02) as he hashes out the controversies in Washington and other political issues facing Minnesota and the rest of the country.

The IRS said it singled out some conservative groups -- giving them extra scrutiny as they applied for tax-exempt status. Republicans are outraged, but even Democrats can't believe it happened. President Obama has called the issue "intolerable," but it gets even muddier when you dig into the reasoning behind the matter.

The Justice Department's seizure of phone records from Associated Press reporters is being explained as a national security issue. This has riled up all press networks, causing concern that their sources, including whistle blowers, will no longer speak out. There used to be a healthy tension between the government and reporters, but now some say that's changing.
