Woman, 74, abducted and robbed in Commerce Township

COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

A trip to Subway turned into a nightmare for an elderly Berkley couple Friday afternoon in Commerce Township.

Oakland County Sheriffs say a man left his 74-year-old wife in the car, while he ran inside the sandwich shop to place an order to-go.

He exited the store a short while later, and knew something was wrong when his car was missing. His wife is handicapped and does not drive, according to police.

A short while later, the man's wife called 911 from Pontiac, more than 10 miles away. Oakland County Sheriffs responded to her location, near Legrand and Putnam Streets, and located the 74 year-old woman and the couple's car.

While waiting for her husband, the woman says a man wearing gloves got into the car, started the engine and drove away with her still inside.

Police say the suspect drove the woman to Pontiac, parked the car, took her money, then fled on foot. No one was hurt, thankfully.

The suspect is described as a Middle-Eastern male between 20 and 30 years of age, last seen wearing dark gloves, hat and a jacket.

K-9 units responded and tried to pick up a scent, but were unsuccessful. If you have any information, please contact Oakland County Sheriffs.
