New Hall At LAX To Be Named For Antonio Villaraigosa
Los Angeles, CA -
(CNS) Los Angeles World Airports plans to name the grand new central hall of the LAX international terminal the "Antonio R. Villaraigosa Pavilion," it was reported today.
Airport commissioners are to vote Tuesday on the honor, which the Daily News said would allow Villaraigosa to take a victory lap before he is termed out of office at the end of June.
The $1.7 billion expansion of the terminal, named after former mayor Tom Bradley, is about $200 million over budget, the Daily News reported on its web site. Airport officials defend the overruns, noting that the curved, wave-like roofs of the new structure were an ambitious and difficult project.
The Board of Airport Commissioners will vote on the proposal Tuesday afternoon.
