Patients meet first responders who rescued them

Posted: Updated:

Today is Emergency Medical Services for Children Day. And as part of the day, Phoenix Children's Hospital reunited some EMS responders with the people they rescued.

Among the reunions -- 17-year-old McKenzie Jansen. She met the members of the Guardian Medical Transport Team and the Summit Fire Department, who responded when she was injured in an accident near Flagstaff.

"It was just a really good feeling that they were willing to put their time in to come help me and save me," says Jansen.

13--year-old Chance Molzon and her mother were heading to Sky Harbor when their lives changed forever.

A drunk driver driving on the wrong side of the I-17 hit them head-on. Both had life-threatening injuries.

Today they met the off-duty Scottsdale Police officer who pulled over to help.

"If they weren't there, I would have been dead and I am just grateful that there are people like that in the world to be there when we need them," says Molzon.

13-year-old Jacob Franco from Globe met the first responders from Native Air Ground Transport.

Jacob was accidentally shot while his brother was cleaning a gun last December. A family friend picked it up and it went off, shooting Jacob in the head.

Jacob is undergoing eye therapy and is being outfitted for a new pair of lenses. Doctors expect him to make a full recovery.

Chance says she looks forward to walking again soon, and McKenzie hopes to be back in school next September.
