PALMETTO, Ga. -

Police in Palmetto say they're investigating the abduction of a 13-year-old boy.  They say he was approached by a man as he got off his school bus on Wednesday, and that man pulled him into a pickup truck.  He was able to escape, but the suspect is still on the loose.

Investigators say the incident took place along Carlton Road around 4:15 p.m.  They say the suspect approached the boy and put his hand over his mouth.  Then, they say he pulled the boy into a green Ford pickup truck and took off down Highway 29 into Union City.

The boy told police he was able to get away around the old Shannon Mall. The teen's father said that his son spent the next several hours running, not entirely sure where he was.

As evening turned to night at their apartment complex, the boy's parents began to panic.

"I'm still worried, I called my mother up and I'm crying and stuff like that,' the father said.

Nearly 12 hours after he vanished, the boy was found by Union City police around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday.

"A Union City police picked him up on the bench, he was sitting on the bench," the father said.

Police are searching for an older-model, green Ford pickup truck with a single cab and a dented rear license plate.  The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black man with short hair and a muscular build.  Police say he is approximately 6'0"-6'3" tall and is between 20 and 30 years old.  He was last seen wearing a black shirt and black boots.

Anyone with information about the suspect in this case is asked to call Sgt. Lee Gragg of the Palmetto Police Department at 770-463-9068 or 770-820-7324.
