A Hillsborough County man faces charges in a severe animal abuse case.
Detectives accuse James Hopkins of hoarding cats at his home on Annette Avenue. They went there to checkup on the house as part of a foreclosure action, but what they found was deplorable.
According to the
sheriff's office, Hopkins hid dozens of cats nearby the home when
authorities arrived. There were around 31 living in and around the house.
Inside the house, however, 22 cats were found dead in freezers.
Hopkins was evicted from his home, and he now faces felony animal cruelty charges.
