Naval Officer Returns Home To Be By Ailing Father's Side

LANGHORNE, Pa. -

This is a Memorial Day Weekend reunion the Wynkoops will never forget.

"It's been a while. Glad I'm actually able to be here with my family," exclaimed Petty Officer Richard Wynkoop Jr.

Escorted by "Warriors' Watch Riders," Petty Officer Wynkoop traveled to St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne to be by his father's side. The 36-year-old naval officer took emergency leave from serving in South Korea after his 64-year-old dad suffered a heart attack Tuesday.

"I was just hoping he was going to be OK," the son said. "That was my prayer. I felt like my world was going to crash down."

The first sight of his son in nine months triggered a flood of emotions and yearning.

"I want him to come home and stay home. I don't want him in Korea," said Wynkoop's father.

Both military men were honored with Warrior Watch beads for their service.

"The red is for blood shed protecting the nation. On this Memorial Day weekend, we thank you for being a true American," one of the Warrior Watch Riders said, as he presented the Wynkoops with beads.

Richard Sr., a Vietnam vet is thankful for all the praise, especially from his son who's following in his footsteps and took time out from serving his country to be by his side.

"This particularly being Memorial weekend, for him to come this far, just for me is unbelievable," the father said.

Petty Officer Wynkoop will spend the next week with his father at St. Mary's.

He's scheduled to ship out back to South Korea in two weeks.

    NICE EASTER WEEKEND

The first half of the holiday weekend has been great and Easter Sunday looks just as nice. Clouds thin out late tonight with temperatures falling back to the 40s.

Initially it'll be jacket weather early Sunday morning but plenty of sunshine will warm us into the 60s by afternoon.  High temperatures will be a few degrees cooler than Saturday.

It will be noticeably cooler and breezy at the shore with highs in the low 50s.  Quiet conditions continue into Monday.
