Worker On First Day At Thrift Store Among Collapse Victims

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Workers at another Salvation Army Thrift Store in Roxborough were not authorized to talk to us Thursday. But it's part of the back story for one of the victims of Wednesday's deadly building collapse.

Family members came to the accident scene to set up a photo tribute to one of the victims of the building collapse. They left without comment, but we've learned 35-year-old Kimberly Finnegan had just gotten engaged. A spokesman at the Salvation Army says she had worked for about a year at their Roxborough store before being transferred to Market Street.

Wednesday was Finnegan's first day on the job at the new location. Sadly, it would be her last.

Given the mountain of rubble, it's remarkable the injuries suffered by some of the victims weren't more severe.

At the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania trauma doctors report three victims, two women and one man suffered only minor injuries.

"Well, they were more superficial and of the nature that were treated with an overnight stay and, again, are suitable for discharge today," one of the doctors said.

"Cuts and bruises, that's correct kind of thing?" FOX 29's Bruce Gordon asked.

"That sort of thing, yes," the doctor answered.

All three of them have now been released from the hospital.

Late Wednesday night, fully 13 hours after the collapse, 61-year-old Myra Plekan was pulled from the rubble. Citing privacy laws, doctors at HUP would not reveal much beyond her condition, critical.

As for that lengthy period trapped beneath broken bricks and splintered wood, the doctor said, "It's longer than the others in the disaster yesterday, but certainly not the longest any of us have ever heard of."

In statement late Thursday afternoon, the Salvation Army laments what it refers to as the tragic loss of life. A spokesman says grief counselors are already in place to offer assistance to those Salvation Army workers impacted directly and indirectly by the building collapse.

Late this afternoon we learned the identity of the other people killed in the collapse.

Anne Bryan, 18, was a student at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

A statement from her family says," Anne was a brilliant and caring young woman. She was an incredibly kind and loving person and her death has left a hole in the hearts of all who knew her."

The only man killed was 68-year-old Borbor Davis, of Darby. His step-daughter confirms he worked at the Thrift store.

And the other women killed are Juanita Harmin, Mary Simpson and Roseline Conteh.

Video games may be pure fantasy, but a violent action-adventure game called "Watch Dogs" has ignited a very real debate in one South Jersey community. Watch Dog allows players to adopt the persona of a James Bond-like computer hacker, chasing an evil mastermind. People say it's chock-full of foul language, sex and violence, features dark and foreboding backdrops. The latest version, which is due out this fall may be set in Camden.
