School releases cafeteria video involved in bus driver dispute

Posted: Updated:
HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. -

Haralson County school officials are firing back after a school bus driver took to social media and accused cafeteria workers of refusing to feed one of their students.

The school releasing surveillance video, which they say shows that's just not true. This is surveillance video of the cafeteria at Haralson County Middle School.

The bus driver, Johnny Cook, said that the student got on his bust and complained cafeteria workers refused to feed him after his lunch money account had run out.

Cook got so upset that he went on a Facebook rant and accused the school of denying the child food.

The school denies those allegations.

"I mean, we love our kids. There's no reason for us to treat them badly when they come here," said Brian Ridley, the principal of Haralson County Middle School.

The cafeteria surveillance shows that student entering the cafeteria, but never choosing to go through the line to actually order his lunch.

"What he'll do is enter through this door, move in this direction toward some seating over here, and remain there for 39 minutes."

Cook says he was told to remove the Facebook post or be fired. The post remained on his page and Cook was fired.

The school says the district has a strict social media policy against posts that disrupt the school system.

"Unfortunately information was placed on a social media networking site without the facts being obtained and I think that in and of itself created a lot of miscommunication and a lot of false information," said Haralson County Superintendent Brett Stanton.
