Two Pinal County Sheriff's Office deputies were assaulted during separate traffic stops on Monday and Tuesday.

A K-9 deputy patrolling I-10 near Casa Grande pulled over a pickup truck for traffic violations on Monday.

After 24-years-old Raul Hernandez-Lopez showed the deputy his Mexican Electoral Card, he was asked to get out of his pickup.

Deputies say Hernandez-Lopez ignored the deputy, started accelerating toward him and then got back onto the road.

The deputy reportedly jumped into the dirt shoulder of the roadway, missing the truck's rear tires.

Deputies pursued Hernandez-Lopez until he allegedly stopped his truck and ran into the desert.

The original deputy detained a female passenger while other responding deputies chased and caught Hernandez-Lopez.

According to deputies, Hernandez-Lopez was laughing and taunting deputies throughout his arrest and booking.

He faces charges of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Failure to Stop.

On Tuesday, a deputy tried to stop a vehicle near Tomahawk Road and Southern Avenue after a record's check showed the owner of the car had a revoked license.

Deputies say 35-years-old William Thomas began driving erratically and speeding before stopping and attempting to flee into a nearby home.

As the deputy was trying to place Thomas into handcuffs, he allegedly fought with the deputy and tried to hit him in the face several times.

Apache Junction police arrived and were able to help the deputy restrain Thomas.

Deputies say Thomas yelled several derogatory remarks to the deputy and he smelled of alcohol; his blood is being tested for impairment.

Thomas was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries received during the struggle.

The deputy had injuries to his hands and arms, but didn't need treatment.

Thomas was booked on charges of Aggravated Assault on an Officer, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Flight.
