The Volusia County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Children and Family Services are asking for your help finding a 27-year-old Deltona mom on the run with her three kids. Officials believe the kids are at risk.
According to Sheriff's Office Spokesperson Gary Davidson, Tonia Schurman took off sometime Monday with her three children: 8-year-old Ibraheem Ayoub, 6-year-old Yasmin Ayoub, and 4-month-old Madaleen Ayoub.
Monday, a judge ruled that DCF must take all three kids from Schurman and into state custody. When sheriff's deputies showed up at Schurman's home on Belvedere Drive, there was no sign of her or her children.
"She was seen at her house at some point Monday. We were there on Monday and couldn't find her. We went back there Tuesday and today, and still no sign of her," said Davidson.
Officials are not permitted to share the specific details as to why DCF was ordered to take custody, because of confidentiality laws.
At least one neighbor we spoke to was surprised that the judge would take the kids away.
"The kids haven't been looking ignored or neglected, so whatever has been going on has been scary," said Greg Meiste.
We asked the sheriff's office to show us a rundown of the number of calls to Schurman's home over the past few years, and since 2011, 28 different calls were made ranging domestic disturbances to well-being checks.
We know that a man did live at the home with Schurman at one point.
"If the neglect continues, that's more damage that can be done," Davidson said. "So we want to find them and find them quickly!"
They are believed to be traveling in a black, 2003 Isuzu Ascender SUV with a Florida tag, BKM195.
Anyone who sees the children or their mother or has any information on their whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff's Office immediately at (386) 736-5999.
