NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A Midtown Manhattan bank robbery spree ended on the corner of 31st Street and 9th Avenue on Thursday where one of two suspected thieves crashed his green Taurus and then tried to make a run for the Lincoln Tunnel.

But he didn't make it. Port Authority Police Officer Josh Maarleveld just happened to be at the right place at the right time. Maarveled said once the suspect, identified as Maverick Madore, 20, was cornered he became very aggressive. With backup from an Amtrak police officer, Maarveled managed to arrest Madore.

The NYPD said the suspects started the day by robbing a Capital One Bank at 56th and Broadway before heading less than one block south and doing the same thing again at an Amalgamated Bank.

Police said the robbers changed their clothes as they moved from bank to bank to try to keep their identitys a mystery.

At least five banks were hit, including a Bank of America at 33rd Street and 6th Avenue.

An umbrella vendor said he saw a suspect leaving there.

Investigators said one robber pretended he had a weapon in at least one bank, handing a note over to the teller in at least one other. Cops said the suspect got splattered with ink used to trace stolen money.

Madore is charged with robbery. The NYPD identified the suspect who is still on the loose as Frank Mione, 47.

If you have any information about the robberies, you can contact the NYPD's Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS or at
