Air conditioning woes close Ga. police building

Posted: Updated:

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - Police in Savannah say an air conditioning outage has forced officers to work from other buildings and their patrol cars.

Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police spokesman Julian Miller says an air conditioning unit at the department's central precinct began malfunctioning Thursday. Precinct commander, DeVonn Adams, says temperatures inside the building climbed to the mid-90s by Friday.

Officers are being asked to work from alternate locations over the next two weeks while the problem is addressed. Police say the building where the air conditioning unit malfunctioned is leased from a local church, which is working to address the problem.

Adams says most police work is done from patrol cars, so the department isn't anticipating any disruptions in service. Telephone calls to the precinct are being routed to other department buildings.
