ORLANDO, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -

Two young girls who vanished from North Carolina last month may be in Florida with their mother.

Hendersonville police said Gretchen Sanford took her daughters Hannah and Hailey Shaw, ages 9 and 7, from their school on May 27, and left North Carolina.  Investigators believe they're traveling in a 2001 Volkswagen Passat.

Capt. Doug Jones told FOX 35 they believe Sanford drove to Orlando, because she worked and lived in the city.  He said they're worried she is here with the girls, but doesn't have a job.

Police told FOX 35 that the courts have issued a temporary emergency custody order that giving custody to the girls' father.

If you know where the girls are, you are asked to call local law enforcement, or the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.
