PHOENIX (AP) - Gov. Jan Brewer has declared an emergency in Yavapai County because of a growing wildfire near Prescott that has consumed more than 10 square miles of forest.

Thursday's declaration makes $100,000 available to support emergency response and recovery efforts and authorizes the commander of the Arizona National Guard to mobilize troops if needed.

The state's emergency operations center in Phoenix was activated Wednesday to support fire operations. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is paying three-quarters of the costs for firefighting and evacuation centers.

There is no containment on the fire about 8 miles outside Prescott. As many as 60 people used a temporary shelter at Yavapai College gymnasium on Wednesday.

The fire broke out Tuesday in the Prescott National Forest and more than 460 homes remain evacuated.
