Alleged Predator & Former USC Professor In Federal Court

Posted: Updated:

A former USC professor who was on the FBI's Most Wanted list went before a judge on Thursday in downtown Los Angeles. Walter Lee Williams is an accused pedophile who police say went overseas to have sex with young boys.

The sexual predator turned international fugitive was in federal court in downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, facing charges of having sex with 14-year-old boys in the Philippines.  He was placed on the FBI's Most Wanted list, and then the next day he was spotted south of the border and was arrested.

A newspaper ran a photo of Williams, and someone recognized him in a cafe having a cup of coffee and called the law. He's a former University of Southern California professor that prosecutors charge that he flew to the Philippines just to have sex with boys he met online.

Federal authorities say he was a member of the group known as the Buddhist Universal Association, a religious group that holds the belief that it's acceptable to sleep with minors.

Another member of the group, an associate of Williams charged with sex crimes--is Richard Arlington. Arlington was found out in the desert in Cathedral City. Investigators say he was found nude in a makeshift bed in a rental storage unity.  He's facing charges of other related sex crimes.

In court on Thursday, Williams told the federal magistrate that he was not guilty.  The magistrate is holding him over for trial saying he is a risk to the community. The trial will be in mid-August.
