The proposed ban on casinos in Cocoa Beach cleared its first hurdle on Thursday night.
Commissioners approved the first reading of an ordinance that would ban Las Vegas-style casinos in Cocoa Beach. Commissioner Skip Williams proposed the ban.
Gambling isn't fully legal in Florida yet, but Commissioner Williams wants to take a proactive step, and ensure Cocoa Beach won't become home to casinos and Internet gambling cafes. About two dozen residents came out to hear the debate on Thursday night
The second and final vote is scheduled to take place during the meeting on July 18th.
