WEST BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

The fire damage to the roof and second story of a house on Comfort Court is visible from Walnut Lake. From the street, workers could be seen boarding up the home on Monday.

"These heavy duty fireworks, and when you shoot them off between houses that are on top of each other, are bound to catch a house on fire," said neighbor Morris Margulies.

"They were nice fireworks. They went high in the sky," said neighbor Mike Salinger.

"It was over the lake, but still with the wind and everything, it blows over," said neighbor Laurie Salinger.

Neighbors and law enforcement are concerned that is exactly what happened.

People at a home a couple of doors down were setting off fireworks for a couple of hours Sunday night. A few hours later, their neighbor's house was in flames.

"They think that the fireworks are going to land in the water. It doesn't land in the water because the wind blows it the other way," Margulies said. "The hot embers come down on people's houses."

The owner of the home did not want to be interviewed, but we were told she actually asked the neighbors not to set off those fireworks because she was afraid her roof would catch fire.

Unfortunately, they woke up to smoke alarms around 2:00 a.m., but everybody is okay.

Police are fire in West Bloomfield are investigating. We were told charges are likely. The township ordinance states that fireworks are only to be set off the day before, the day of and the day after Independence Day. There could be state charges, as well.
