PHOENIX -

Neighbors sprung into action Monday to save the life of a young boy who nearly drowned in an apartment pool.

The 8-year-old boy and some friends were swimming at a pool near 36th Avenue and Osborn. Witnesses say the boy's mom was at the pool, but became distracted.

A neighbor noticed something was wrong, and he rushed in to give CPR.

"I ran down, I told my wife there's a kid drowning, call 911 do whatever you have to do to get someone here ASAP," says David Gonzales.

The boy was taken to the hospital as a precaution. He was awake and talking when he was transported.

"The best feeling to have was that little boy breathing and then coming to. God put me here for a purpose."
