Frankie Vosburg is the first child in Polk County to be adopted by a same sex couple through the local court system. After being in foster care since he was a baby, Frankie has finally settled down.
"It feels like a real home to me," 11-year-old Frankie said.
Soon after Nick Santamaria and David Vosburg got married in Washington, D.C., they decided they wanted to have children. They adopted Frankie's 9-year-old brother David in Manatee County not that long ago, then it was on to Frankie. They thought they might get a lot of resistance, but didn't.
Even though both adoptions got the support of the court, Santamaria and Vosburg were concerned how people would react.
"I was nervous when they went to school, how they would be treated," said Santamaria. "But I have to say, we have been pleasantly surprised here in Polk County how open the community has been with us."
