DULUTH, Minn. (KMSP) -

Loved ones of Trevor Langlois have scraped together a couple thousand dollars hoping it will help track down the motorist who killed the 24-year-old husband, dad, son and proud Army veteran.

"He was surrounded by loved ones, so we had our chance to say goodbye. Wasn't easy," Trevor Langlois' father Brian Langlois said.

On Saturday, the Langlois family pulled their beloved family member off of life support, and now the family is speaking out about the hit-and-run on I-35 in Hinckley last Monday that ultimately ended his life.

Trevor Langlois was on his way home when he pulled off onto the shoulder of a southbound I-35 ramp to deal with car problems when a driver, believed to be in a newer model Ford F-150 pick-up struck the vet who dreamed of one day owning his boyhood home near Stacy, Minn. He died days later, and police are still looking for the driver.

His wife Katie Langlois was widowed and left to raise 2-year old Ethan on her own.

"He doesn't really understand. Thinks daddy is either sleeping or sick," she said. "He just points at things and says ‘Dada's.'"

"The best thing they can do for themselves is surrender before they get dragged in handcuffs," Brian Langlois said.

Brian Langlois wants so desperately to find the motorist that he put $1,000 of his own money towards a reward fund. A buddy has doubled it to $2,000 for information leading to an arrest.

"It's obvious, having seen the site, this person not only knew they hit Trevor, they also knew they were going to hit Trevor -- panicked and hit brakes," Brian Langlois said.

"The passenger side mirror was damaged and knocked off. That's what killed my son. Struck by the mirror," Brian Langlois said.

"Please turn yourself in so we can have closure. Start to heal. Granted take long time to heal. Like to start," Katie Langlois said.

The Minnesota State Patrol released updated information on the suspect vehicle, describing it as a model 2010 or newer Ford F-150 with a XLT trim package or higher, based on the debris found at the scene.
