Ocoee man accused of killing grandmother captured in Sumter
OCOEE, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) -
A man accused of killing his 62-year-old grandmother in the Ocoee home they shared, then fleeing in her car, is expected to make a first appearance before a judge Wednesday.
Shawn Fortner, 27, is accused of killing Phyllis France, who was found dead in their Lake Shore Drive home Tuesday.
Authorities say Fortner and France got into an argument Tuesday morning. He then took off from the home.
A naked Fortner was found 100 miles away in Sumter County. Deputies arrested him in Wildwood after a chase. They say he broke into the home of someone he knew, threatened the home's occupants, then left in one of their vehicles.
Fortner has a criminal record dating to 2006.
Fortner was booked into the Sumter jail late Tuesday and faces multiple felony charges, including battery, resisting arrest and burglary.
